IN-HOSPITAL INSTITUTIONAL VIOLENCE IN THE CHILDCARE PRACTICE: DISCOURSE ANALYSIS FROM THE FOUCAULDIAN PERSPECTIVE

ABSTRACT Objective: to interpret speeches by health professionals and companions about in-hospital institutional violence in childcare practices, based on the Foucauldian concept of discipline. Method: a qualitative, descriptive exploratory research study with pediatric unit from university hospital Salvador/Bahia as field. The participants were 10 hospitalized children 39 professionals. Data collection took place November 2018 October 2019 using semi-structured interviews. Discourse analysis light Thought was employed data interpretation. Results: care practices is understood disciplinary device, having following elements: time control spatial separation; over bodies; norms training; thorough examination. With being guided such elements, situations omission, disrespect for autonomy privacy, lack listening, attention, physical harms, deprivations multiple manipulations children's bodies identified, resulting violations these individuals' human dignity. Conclusion: it necessary professionals, users, managers academic community propose change modes children, strengthening dissemination debate rights services that serve their families.
